About
Heidi Farrah is a Lecturer in the English Department at North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) since 2001, with a career spanning technical, community, and four-year colleges across Minnesota. She holds an MFA from George Mason University and a BES from St. Cloud State University, where she studied theatre, English, philosophy, and human relations.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes coaching over evaluation, focusing on empowering students to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners through meaningful, connected curricula. Research interests include experimental/Black Mountain/NY School poetic traditions, social justice, and interdisciplinary exploration of language, identity, and structural inequities.
Notable achievements include co-founding the Minnesota State system's first Women for Social Justice group (1989 Human Rights Award winner) and Pushcart Prize-nominated poetry. She mentors students through recommendation letters and maintains accessibility via email, office hours, or Zoom appointments.
