Heidi Duckler is a Lecturer in Film & Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara and founder/artistic director of Heidi Duckler Dance in Los Angeles and Heidi Duckler Dance/Northwest in Portland. Recognized as a pioneer of place-based performance, she explores how dance and site-specific art foster awareness. She holds a BS in Dance from the University of Oregon and an MA in Choreography from UCLA.
Her research focuses on interdisciplinary performance, integrating dance with urban spaces and film. Awards include the NEA American Masterpiece Award and Doris Duke’s Engaging Dance Audiences Award. Recent works like I Will Remember What I Forgot (2023) and Mother/Other (2024) have won acclaim at Cannes and Miami Women’s Film Festivals.
