Heidi Armbruster is an Associate Professor in German and Social Anthropology at the University of Southampton's Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics. Specializing in migration and diversity studies, her work explores post-migration identities in German-speaking contexts and post-colonial German legacies. She currently leads an Arts Council England-funded project examining rural diversity in Hampshire through collaborative participatory arts.
Her academic journey includes a PhD in Social Anthropology from SOAS, University of London, followed by research fellowships at the Universities of Bradford and Southampton. Notable projects include the EU-funded 'Sefone' initiative on border studies and research on immigrant Germans in Namibia.
Research affiliations include the Centre for Transnational Studies and co-founding the cross-disciplinary 'Debating Ethnography' group.
