Dr. HeeYoung Kim is an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood/Reading in the Department of Education at West Texas A&M University. She joined the institution in 2022 and holds a Ph.D. in Language, Reading, and Culture from the University of Arizona, an M.A. in Reading and Literacy from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a B.S. in Foreign Language Education from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, South Korea.
Her teaching focuses on reading courses, children’s literature, and early childhood education, emphasizing the promotion of children’s literature in literacy education. She actively serves on the Standing Committee of Global Citizenship Education at the National Council of Teachers of English and holds an executive board position with Worlds of Words, reviewing for WoW Review: Reading Across Cultures.
Dr. Kim’s research explores critical visual literacy through picturebook illustrations, preservice teachers’ engagement with global literature, and transnational literacy program development. Her work addresses literacy practices in diverse sociocultural contexts and teacher preparation for global education.
