About
Héctor Marín Moreno is a Lecturer in Climate Sciences at the University of Southampton's School of Ocean and Earth Science. His research focuses on geoscience solutions for offshore renewable energy, geological CO₂/H₂ storage, and marine methane emissions. He holds a PhD from the University of Southampton (2014) and has held roles at institutions like the National Oceanography Centre and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute. His teaching includes modules on environmental geology, geotechnics, and carbon capture.
- Education:
- PhD, Graduate School National Oceanography Centre, University of Southampton (2010-2014)
- MSc, Geotechnical Engineering, UPC BarcelonaTECH (2009-2010)
- MEng, Geological Engineering, UPC BarcelonaTECH and University of Barcelona (2004-2009)
Research interests span smart data integration for offshore wind projects, thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical processes in marine sediments, and climate change mitigation via CO₂ storage. He leads the DEEP-DIG project and collaborates on the INSPIRE doctoral program. His recent work emphasizes AI-driven geophysical modeling and hybrid physics-data solutions.
Publications (2022–2025) highlight studies on submarine channel dynamics, methane bubble behavior, and CO₂ monitoring via CSEM and InSAR. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Marine Geophysical Research and advises PhD students on geotechnical data and marine emissions topics.
