Dr. Hector Andres Valero is a former Postdoctoral Fellow (2023-24) in the Department of History at Florida International University (FIU). His research focuses on the intersection of emotions, homosexuality, and gender theory, particularly examining the construction of homosexual identity in Colombia during 1936-1980. He currently supervises the History Writing Tutors at FIU's History Department.

Research Interests: Dr. Valero explores how legal, medical, and journalistic discourses shaped the stigmatization of homosexual subjects in Colombia. His work integrates gender theory and the history of emotions to analyze power dynamics and social hierarchies. His dissertation, 'Ubiquitous Emotions and the Construction of the Homosexual Subject During the Criminalization of Homosexual Sex in Urban Colombia, 1936-1980', highlights the role of emotional language in legitimizing marginalization.
Teaching & Experience: In Colombia, he taught undergraduate courses in Ethics, Constitutional Law, and sexual diversity. At FIU, he contributes to academic support through tutoring supervision.
