About
Dr. Heba Youssef is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton's School of Humanities and Social Science, affiliated with the Centre for Applied Philosophy, Politics and Ethics. Her research focuses on colonialism, postcolonial studies, and decolonial frameworks, examining intersections between nationalism, empire, and racial capitalism in 19th-21st century contexts. She co-leads an ESRC-funded project on the 'Abolitionist International' and founded the online journal 'Voices from BoisMitidja' to amplify decolonial scholarship. Youssef actively contributes to academic networks, including the BISA Colonial, Postcolonial and Decolonial Working Group, where she established an early-career scholar prize with Review of International Studies.
Her work critiques normative narratives of state-building and global politics, particularly through analyses of Zionism's colonial interventions and European diplomatic logics. She supervises PhD students exploring decolonial and abolitionist theories, emphasizing marginalized and Global South perspectives. Recent publications include co-editing Decolonising the Curriculum: Teaching and Learning about Race Equality, which addresses pedagogical strategies for racial equity.
