About
Heather Stewart is an Associate Professor at Kelpie Geoscience and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre. With over 20 years of marine research experience, she specializes in characterizing seabed geology and physical characteristics of deep-sea environments.
Her research focuses on two themes: geomorphology and sediments of hadal and abyssal systems like subduction trenches and fracture zones; and reconstructing dynamics, configuration, and sedimentary records of former ice-sheets. She utilizes shallow seismic, sidescan sonar, multibeam echosounder, and sample data in her interdisciplinary work.
She has participated in more than 35 marine expeditions worldwide and completed multiple crewed submersible dives. Stewart has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and commercial reports.
