Heather Reader

Heather Reader is an Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair in Chemistry of the Ocean and Atmosphere at Memorial University's Faculty of Science. Her research investigates biogeochemical dynamics of marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) using advanced analytical techniques to understand carbon cycling in sensitive marine environments like the Arctic Ocean and Baltic Sea.

Her recent publications focus on DOM behavior across salinity gradients, impacts of extreme weather on boreal catchments, and metal-organic interactions. Research employs spectroscopy, chromatography, and field expeditions to track carbon fluxes and climate feedbacks.

Awards include the prestigious Canada Research Chair. She leads the Reader Lab, advancing methodologies for coastal ecosystem analysis and mentoring students in biogeochemistry.
