Heather M. Ochs-Balcom is an Associate Professor and serves as Director of Graduate Studies for MPH Programs and Director of the MPH Concentration in Epidemiology within the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health at the University at Buffalo's School of Public Health and Health Professions.

She investigates breast, colorectal, and ovarian cancer through interdisciplinary approaches combining family-based and population-based studies, with emphasis on genetic and computational methodologies. Current projects include breast cancer genetics in African American families, participation in the Women's Health Initiative, the Ovarian Cancer in Women of African Ancestry consortium, and follicle stimulating hormone's role in obesity development and postmenopausal breast cancer.
As Director of Graduate Studies, she oversees MPH program development and student mentorship. Her research is conducted through major national consortia including the Women's Health Initiative and Ovarian Cancer in Women of African Ancestry consortium, which provide collaborative infrastructure for large-scale epidemiological investigations.
