Heather K. Way

Heather K. Way is a Professor at the University of Texas School of Law, where she co-directs the Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic. She holds dual roles within the Division of Research & Innovation and the Center of Excellence for Housing & Community Development Policy Research. Her work focuses on legal strategies to enhance housing stability, economic opportunity, and equitable community development.

Education: Graduated from the University of Texas School of Law, followed by a clerkship with Judge William Wayne Justice and Skadden Fellowship representing tenants with Legal Aid of Central Texas.

Research emphasizes state and local legal reforms, including community land trusts, property tax relief, and heritage preservation tied to African-American history. She co-founded the Uprooted Project addressing neighborhood displacement and authored Real Property for the Real World, a property law casebook.

Professional Affiliations: Serves on the Uniform Law Commission's Tenancy in Common Drafting Committee, co-chairs the ABA Affordable Housing Forum's Community Development Practice Group, and advises legal educators nationwide.
