Heather Humann

Heather Humann is a Lecturer in the Department of Language & Literature at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), College of Arts & Sciences. Her research and teaching focus on American Literature, Composition, Creative Writing, and Drama of the U.S., with a specialization in gender studies, science fiction, and detective fiction.

Heather has published five critical books exploring intersections of domestic abuse, gender, and speculative fiction, including A Tale Told by a Machine: The AI Narrator in Contemporary Science Fiction Novels (2023). Her work appears in journals like African American Review, Clues: A Journal of Detection, and Journal of Popular Film and Television.

Notable awards include the 2023 Felicia Campbell Award, the 2020 ICFA Book Prize, and multiple FGCU Library Author Series honors. She has presented at international conferences at Southern Cross University (Australia), University of Montréal, and Spelman College.
