Heather Conboy

Heather Conboy is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Computer Science, University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her work focuses on applying software engineering techniques to improve systems involving concurrency, synchronization, and exceptional scenarios, such as concurrent Java programs and medical procedures. She specializes in formal system definitions and static program analyses, including model checking, to prevent defects and vulnerabilities.

Her research explores real-time monitoring and guidance for human performers (e.g., medical professionals) using system definitions, evaluated through collaborations with technical and non-technical stakeholders in real-world case studies. She also volunteers as a mentor for undergraduate research programs, including the REU and University Honors initiatives.
