Heather Baid is a Principal Lecturer at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Education, Sport and Health and the Public Health and Health Conditions Research Excellence Group. She leads the BSc (Hons) Clinical Practice degree and intensive care modules in the Continuing Professional Education programme. Her academic roles include course leadership and teaching in critical care nursing, supported by qualifications such as a PhD in Sustainability in Critical Care Practice (2019), MSc in Clinical Studies and Education (2010), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methodology (2013).
Heather has received notable awards, including the University of Brighton’s Rising Star Research Award (2020) and two Excellence in Facilitating and Empowering Learning awards. She holds a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and is a member of the BACCN Southern Region committee.
Her research focuses on sustainable healthcare practices, particularly environmental, financial, and social sustainability in critical care. Key projects include leading the GREEN-ICU initiative to reduce intensive care’s carbon footprint and co-chairing the annual SHARE conference on sustainability in health. She collaborates internationally on studies assessing healthcare professionals’ views on environmental sustainability and advancing simulation-based education for sustainable practices.
Heather supervises PhD/MSc/MRes students in critical care clinical practice, healthcare sustainability, and simulation education. She has organized sustainability-focused conferences and contributed to policy discussions through publications in journals like Nursing in Critical Care and Critical Care.
