Heather Arden is a Professor specializing in medieval French literature at the University of Cincinnati. She earned her doctorate from New York University in 1974 and teaches courses on medieval women, medieval fantasy/myth, and twentieth-century French women writers including Beauvoir and Colette. Her research focuses extensively on the Romance of the Rose, about which she has published critical studies and directed NEH summer seminars.
Her scholarly work examines women's roles in medieval romance, saints' lives, and poetry, with recent investigations into Marie de France's Lais and Christine de Pizan's writings about Joan of Arc.
