Heather Abel

Heather Abel is a Lecturer in English Language & Literature at Smith College. She holds an M.F.A. from New School University and has taught creative writing at UMass Amherst and the New School. Her research focuses on creative writing, fiction, and non-fiction literature, with published works including the novel The Optimistic Decade and essays in the New York Times and Paris Review.

Research interests center on narrative techniques, climate change themes in literature, and the intersection of personal and historical narratives in contemporary fiction.
