He Yin is Assistant Professor of Geography at Kent State University, where he leads the Remote Sensing and Land Science Lab (SensLand Lab). His research investigates land system changes using remote sensing and interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on agricultural abandonment, armed conflict impacts, forest mapping, and equity issues. Funded by NASA, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and CIFOR, his work on conflict impacts has been featured in major media outlets.
Dr. Yin coordinates the Global Land Programme Working Group on Agricultural Land Abandonment and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles. Recent projects examine war impacts on Gaza agriculture, Caucasus land cover changes using historical spy satellite imagery, and methods for tree crop mapping through sensor fusion. His research promotes sustainable land use practices benefiting both environment and society.
Honors include the European Space Agency Earth Observation Excellence Team Award (2025), Kent State New Faculty Research Award (2024), and NASA Early Career Investigator (2021).
