Hazel V. Carby is the Charles C. and Dorathea S. Dilley Professor of African American Studies and American Studies Emerita at Yale University, with a focus on race, gender, and globalization. She directs the Initiative on Race, Gender, and Globalization. Her research spans postcolonial theory, diasporic literature, and the intersections of cultural studies with historical memory. Notable works include Reconstructing Womanhood (1987), Race Men (1998), and Cultures in Babylon (1999). Current projects include Child of Empire.
Teaching includes courses on diasporic literature, speculative fiction, and representations of Black femininity (e.g., WGSS 343, WGSS 411, WGSS 455).
