Hau Chyi

Hau Chyi serves as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Hanqing Advanced Institute of Economics and Finance, Renmin University of China, and concurrently holds a visiting scholar position at the University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy and NORC. He is affiliated with the Early Childhood Interventions (ECI) Network.

His academic foundation includes a B.A. in Finance from National Chengchi University (1996), an M.A. in Economics from National Taiwan University (1998), and dual M.A. (2004) and Ph.D. (2007) degrees in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Chyi's research centers on applied microeconomics with dual emphases: (1) maternal decision impacts on child development trajectories, and (2) policy effects on low-skilled single mothers' behavioral choices. He leverages Chinese national panel/cross-sectional datasets alongside major U.S. surveys including PSID, NLSY 79, SIPP, and CPS to investigate these dynamics.

Methodologically, he employs dynamic programming modeling, panel data analysis, and limited dependent variable techniques, demonstrating advanced proficiency in Stata, Gauss, and FORTRAN for complex dataset manipulation. His work bridges theoretical econometrics with real-world policy evaluation in labor and public economics contexts.
