Hasan Meydan

Hasan Meydan is an Associate Professor at Akdeniz University's Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology. He has held this position since 2018, following his tenure as Assistant Professor from 2015-2018. His academic career began at Ankara University where he completed his undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate studies in Zootekni (Animal Science) with a specialization in Biometry and Genetics, including research at Michigan State University's Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.

Dr. Meydan's educational background includes a Doctorate from Ankara University (2007-2012) in Zootekni (Biometry-Genetics Department), a Postgraduate degree (2004-2007), and an Undergraduate degree from Ankara University's Faculty of Agriculture, Zootekni program (2000-2004). His research focuses on animal genetics and biotechnology, with particular emphasis on molecular genetics of livestock species including sheep, goats, cattle, and poultry.

With over 88 publications in Web of Science and 20 in Scopus, Dr. Meydan's research primarily investigates genetic diversity in native Turkish animal breeds, prion diseases, and genetic disorders in livestock. His recent work (2021-2025) shows a strong focus on Awassi sheep in the Fertile Crescent region, genetic markers associated with economically important traits, and molecular characterization of both animal and plant species. His publications span multiple disciplines including Veterinary Sciences, Animal Science, Genetics, and Molecular Biology.

He has secured numerous research grants from TUBITAK and higher education institutions, focusing on genetic characterization of native Turkish livestock breeds and molecular markers for economically important traits. Currently serving as Deputy Head of Department at Akdeniz University (2021-present) and previously as Vice Dean (2018-2020), he actively contributes to academic leadership and scientific community through editorial board memberships in journals like Veterinary World and Journal of Genetics and Molecular Biology.
