Hartmut Rosa is a Professor of Sociology and Social Theory at Friedrich Schiller University, Jena, and Director of the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt. He has held visiting professorships at the New School University (2001-2006) and FMSH/EHESS in Paris (2016), and has been affiliated with institutions including the University of Augsburg, University of Essen, and New York’s New School University since 2002.
His research spans critical social theory, modernity, and the sociology of time and acceleration, with a focus on resonance theory and the relationship between societal acceleration and alienation. He has co-edited the journal Time & Society (2008-2018) and co-directs the international conference Philosophy and the Social Sciences in Prague.
His work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Tractatus Award, Erich Fromm Award, and the Werner Heisenberg Medal. He holds a 1997 PhD from Humboldt University, Berlin, and is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
