Harold Braswell

Harold Braswell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Care Ethics at Saint Louis University’s College of Arts and Sciences. His work bridges bioethics, disability studies, and psychoanalysis, focusing on end-of-life care, Holocaust and genocide studies, and Deaf Studies. He serves as Graduate Program Coordinator and holds a Bicentennial Fellowship.

• Education: Ph.D. in Liberal Arts (Emory, 2014), M.S.W. (Saint Louis University, 2022), B.A. in Spanish and Portuguese (Columbia, 2003).

Braswell’s research integrates interdisciplinary methodologies to address ethical dilemmas in hospice care, disability rights, and historical memory. He explores the impact of Oralism on the Deaf community and critiques institutional frameworks in end-of-life autonomy debates.

His recent articles examine physician-assisted suicide, Nazi medicine’s legacy, and religious charity’s role in disability advocacy. Publications often intersect with legal, cultural, and psychoanalytic frameworks.
