
About
Professor Harm Schepel is an Honorary Professor at the University of Kent's Kent Law School and directs activities at the Brussels School of International Studies. He holds a first law degree from the University of Amsterdam, an LLM from the International Institute for the Sociology of Law, and a PhD from the European University Institute. His research focuses on European private law, the EU internal market, and private governance regimes in global capitalism. Key projects include international investment law, arbitration, and EU corporate governance.
Before joining Kent, he was affiliated with institutions such as the University of Bremen and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He has held visiting positions at Columbia Law School, the Amsterdam Centre of European Law and Governance, and Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome. He co-edits the European Law Journal and has published extensively on topics including EU fiscal governance, transnational regulation, and legal pluralism.
His teaching spans international law of foreign investment, economic regulation, and law and development at the postgraduate level. He has contributed to policy-oriented works, such as a guide on EU migration to Belgium. Recent research explores the legal underpinnings of market discipline in the eurozone and the relationship between EU law and international investment arbitration.
