Haomiao Du

Dr. Haomiao Du is an Assistant Professor in Climate Law and Sustainability at Utrecht University's Department of International and European Law (School of Law). Her research focuses on international and comparative climate law, legal dimensions of climate mitigation/adaptation, and governance of emerging technologies like negative emission technologies and geoengineering. She leads interdisciplinary projects exploring legal integration into climate scenario assessments and climate neutrality frameworks.

Education includes a PhD from the Amsterdam Centre for International Law (University of Amsterdam) on geoengineering governance, followed by postdoctoral research at Utrecht University's UCWOSL and University of Twente. She also holds LLM (Environmental Law) and LLB (China) qualifications.

Her work includes analyzing climate law frameworks in the EU, China, and Vietnam, with a focus on legal aspects of climate neutrality, delta resilience (e.g., Mekong Delta), and experimental governance for technologies like drones. She has contributed to projects funded by NWO and Utrecht University, and has spoken at international conferences on topics including geoengineering ethics, climate engineering governance, and drone regulation.

Awards include the Honour of Exceptional Graduate (Chongqing, 2010) and China National Scholarship (2007-2008). She serves as a peer reviewer for journals like Nature Climate Change and Review of European, Comparative and International Environmental Law, and teaches courses on international climate law and EU climate policy.
