Hao LIANG is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University (SMU), where he holds the Ho Bee Professorship in Sustainability Management and serves as Co-Director of the Singapore Green Finance Centre and Co-Lead of the Sustainable Business Research Peak. He is also an Extramural Fellow at Tilburg University and a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). His affiliations extend to the Scientific Committee of the Geneva Centre for Philanthropy and the Technical Committee for Environmental Management and Sustainable Finance at Enterprise Singapore.
He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from Tilburg University (2015), M.Phil. in Finance (2012), and B.A. in Business Administration from Nankai University (2010). He was a visiting researcher at Harvard University during his doctoral studies.
Hao LIANG’s research centers on sustainable finance, corporate governance, ESG, and the political economy of business. His work explores how firms integrate sustainability into strategy, the role of institutional investors, and the impact of policy and ideology on corporate behavior. He has published extensively in top journals including the Journal of Finance, Management Science, and Journal of Financial Economics.
His recent publications reflect a strong focus on biodiversity finance, transition finance, corporate environmental engagement, and the social dimensions of investing. He investigates how firms respond to ESG pressures, the effectiveness of green finance instruments, and the role of ideology and state ownership in shaping corporate sustainability.

Hao LIANG advises numerous PhD and DBA students and has supervised multiple postdoctoral researchers. He is actively involved in teaching across levels and frequently contributes to industry policy discussions. He serves as Section Editor for Journal of Business Ethics and Associate Editor for Management Science, British Accounting Review, and other leading journals. He also leads initiatives such as the Impact & Sustainable Finance Faculty Consortium and organizes high-profile forums on green finance and sustainability.
