Hans van Kippersluis is Professor of Applied Economics at the Erasmus School of Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam, specializing in Health Economics. He additionally serves as Academic Lead for the Erasmus Initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health and holds Research Fellow positions at the Center for Social and Economic Research (University of Southern California) and the Tinbergen Institute.
His research applies econometric methodologies to investigate inequality in human capital formation, with emphasis on: the bidirectional relationship between education and health outcomes; gene-environment interplay in producing socioeconomic disparities; and causal effects of public policies on health behaviors and educational attainment. Current projects include developing behavioral incentives for healthy choices and analyzing policy impacts on labor supply decisions.
Van Kippersluis delivered his inaugural lecture Rethinking Equality of Opportunity and Prevention (April 2022) and was featured in ESB's podcast on contemporary societal inequalities (November 2023), demonstrating active engagement in translating research to public discourse.
