- Dr. med., University of Jena (1986)
- Habilitation in Experimental Immunology, University of Zurich (1996)
- PhD in Pharmacology, Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2001)
Simon's research focuses on cell death mechanisms (apoptosis, necroptosis, mitotic catastrophe), autophagy, and their roles in inflammatory diseases and cancer biology. He investigates granulocyte biology (eosinophils, neutrophils), extracellular trap formation, and hypereosinophilic syndromes, including the development of targeted therapies like mepolizumab.
His most recent articles (2017-2021) explore autophagy in eosinophil function, energy requirements for extracellular traps, and necroptosis conditions. Earlier work (1996-2010) established foundational knowledge in eosinophil survival, hypereosinophilic syndrome classification, and clinical drug development.
