Hans Osthoff

Professor Hans Osthoff is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science. He holds a B.S. from the University of Victoria (1998), M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (2000/2004). His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry processes affecting ozone and its precursors, utilizing advanced analytical instrumentation for field and laboratory studies.

Research interests include air pollution chemistry, atmospheric reaction mechanisms, and environmental monitoring technologies. He teaches CHEM 311 (Quantitative Analysis) and CHEM 521 (Atmospheric Chemistry). His group operates a dedicated laboratory with state-of-the-art instruments for gas-phase analysis.

Publications span over 20 years with recent works addressing ozone formation/loss in urban and natural environments, pollutant transport mechanisms, and instrument development.
