Hans Martin Thomassen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Anthropology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He holds a BA from Clark University (1983), Cand.Pol. from the University of Oslo (1992), and a Ph.D. from NTNU (2008). His research focuses on anthropology of art, development, pedagogy, and Nordic culture, with fieldwork in Kenya, Norway, and France. He has led NTNU’s Department of Social Anthropology (2009-2013) and the Norwegian Anthropological Association (2011-12). Current research includes the 'Technology and Society' group and collaborations like ClassroomLab with Timisoara University. His teaching spans undergraduate to graduate levels, including courses on globalization and cultural theory. He has supervised over 30 Master’s and 1 PhD student. Notable publications include works on transnational education, museum ethnography, and ontological anthropology.
