About
Hans Lindblad is a Professor of Mathematics at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), affiliated with the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. He joined JHU in 2010 and holds a PhD from the Lund Institute of Technology. His research focuses on partial differential equations (PDEs), particularly nonlinear wave equations, fluid dynamics, and mathematical physics, with applications to relativity and black hole stability. Lindblad has made significant contributions to the analysis of free boundary problems, global existence of solutions, and singularity formation in PDEs.
Education: PhD in Mathematics from Lund Institute of Technology. His work includes studies on the Einstein equations, fluid mechanics, and the stability of black holes. He has been recognized with the Simons Fellowship (2014) and is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2014). He was also an invited speaker at the 1998 International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin.
Teaching: Lindblad has taught advanced courses such as Honors Linear Algebra, Functional Analysis, and specialized topics in PDEs and mathematical physics. His research interests span theoretical and applied aspects of PDEs, including scattering theory, nonlinear wave equations, and the mathematical foundations of relativity.
Research Highlights: Lindblad’s work addresses fundamental questions in PDE theory, such as the stability of Minkowski space, linear stability of black holes, and the behavior of solutions to the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations. His recent studies include scattering from infinity for wave equations and asymptotic analysis of solutions to Einstein’s equations.
