Hans Joas is a Professor at Humboldt University of Berlin and a Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago's Committee on Social Thought since 2000. He is also an Ordinary Member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
- Ph.D. in Sociology (1979) and Habilitation (1981) from Freie Universität Berlin.
- Current positions: Ernst Troeltsch Professor at Humboldt University (2014–present) and Visiting Professor at University of Chicago (2000–present).
