Hans-Hermann Thulke is a Senior Scientist at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), leading the Project Group Ecological Epidemiology within the Department of Ecological Modelling. His expertise spans ecological and veterinary epidemiology, with a focus on disease systems involving wildlife and livestock. He holds a PhD in mathematics and biology from the University of Leipzig (1996) and has extensive postdoctoral and research experience in animal health modelling.
Research interests include One Health approaches to pathogens, quantitative risk assessment, and management-oriented disease control strategies. Notable projects involve African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boar populations, rabies oral vaccination in foxes, and sustainable emergency strategies in livestock production. Thulke advises international bodies like EFSA and contributes to policy-relevant modelling for disease eradication.
Teaching includes courses on dynamic modelling and risk assessment at universities in Germany and abroad. He supervises numerous PhD and MSc students and collaborates with institutions globally on epidemiological challenges.
