Hans Hammers

Hans Hammers is Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Eugene P. Frenkel Scholar in Clinical Medicine. He co-leads Clinical Research and Immunotherapy for the Kidney Cancer Research Program.

Medical education includes:

• M.D. and Ph.D. from Medical University of Luebeck, Germany

Research focuses on developing novel immunotherapies for kidney cancer, with expertise in immune checkpoint inhibitors. He established the kidney cancer research program at Johns Hopkins and has led multiple clinical trials.

Recent publications demonstrate advances in combination immunotherapies and predictive biomarkers for treatment response. Key research examines tertiary lymphoid structures, tivozanib-nivolumab combinations, and resistance mechanisms.

Awards include the endowed Eugene P. Frenkel Scholar position. Professional memberships include American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, and Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer.
