Hans Gerdes

Hans Gerdes, MD is an attending physician on the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Service and Director of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy unit at Memorial Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He has held these positions for 30 years and serves as a professor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Gerdes specializes in gastrointestinal diseases with particular expertise in Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancers, and swallowing problems. His clinical work focuses on endoscopic methods for cancer screening and early detection, as well as endoscopic approaches to palliating symptoms of advanced cancer. He has conducted significant research in endoscopic ultrasonography for staging gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancers.
