Hans Ellefsen

Hans Ellefsen serves as Associate Professor and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of the University of the Faroe Islands. He joined the university in 2019 as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in August 2022. Prior academic positions include Project Manager at the Ministry of Fisheries (2013) and Advisor at the Ministry of Fisheries (2016-2019).

Dr. Ellefsen earned his PhD in Essays on Strategic Management of Shared Fish Stocks Applied to the Pelagic Complex in the North East Atlantic from Syddansk Universitet, with his doctoral work conducted from March 2010 to February 2013 and officially awarded May 14, 2013.

His research program centers on fisheries economics with particular expertise in shared fish stock management in the Northeast Atlantic. Dr. Ellefsen commenced his academic career with publications in Game Theory applications to fisheries, focusing on pelagic fish resources shared across the North-East Atlantic. His more recent work examines allocation of fisheries rights and the economic implications of geopolitical events like Brexit on Faroese fisheries policy.
