Hans-Christian Riechers is a Research Fellow at the University of Basel (2021–2024) and External Junior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS, 2024). He holds a PhD from the University of Bielefeld (2018) with a thesis on Peter Szondi. His academic career includes research roles at the Universities of Bielefeld and Freiburg, focusing on German-Jewish literary history, postcolonial German studies, and intellectual history. Since 2021, he has been a member of the Young Academy of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
Education: Studies in German language/literature, philosophy, and religious studies at the Universities of Freiburg (Germany) and Valencia (Spain) from 2003–2010. He taught in St. Petersburg (2011) via DAAD partnerships and has held visiting professorships in Yerevan. Since October 2024, he is a research associate at the SFB 1671 'Heimat(en)' research center.
Research interests include German-Jewish literary history, intercultural and postcolonial German studies, history of science, and intellectual history. His work bridges literary analysis with sociohistorical contexts, particularly exploring colonialism, migration, and cultural intersections. Recent publications analyze figures like Peter Szondi, Friedrich Gundolf, and texts addressing border regions like Ceuta/Melilla.
Grants & Awards: DFG research fellowship (2021–2024), membership in the Young Academy (HAdW), and contributions to collaborative projects like the Friedrich Gundolf edition series. His work spans monographs, edited volumes, and articles in journals like Germanistik and Wirkendes Wort.
Labs/Teams: Involved in the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1671 'Heimat(en)' and co-organizes conferences on topics like 'Heterodox Wissenschaft' and 'Heimatlosigkeit.' His editorial work includes the Friedrich Gundolfs Literaturgeschichte series.
