Professor Hannele Seeck is a Full, tenured Professor of Communication Sciences at LUT University, Department of Social Sciences, School of Engineering Sciences. She holds visiting and honorary positions at institutions including the London School of Economics (Visiting Professor), University of Cambridge (Research Fellow and Life Member), and National Defence University (Finland). Her research focuses on organizational communications, crisis communications, and the interplay of ideology, propaganda, and AI. She leads the Disinformation, Propaganda & Soft Power Research Lab.
Educated at the London School of Economics (MSc, PhD, postdoc), her interdisciplinary work spans sociology, political science, and management studies. Notable contributions include studies on global communications, soft power, and AI-driven detection of propaganda. Awards include the John F. Mee Award (2021) and recognition for most-cited articles in Organization.
Her current research explores AI’s role in detecting propaganda, East Asian soft power through popular culture, and climate change communication. She has advised major corporations and government bodies, including Finland’s Prime Minister’s Office on crisis management. Teaching emphasizes critical thinking and social constructionist approaches, with formal pedagogical training from LSE and University of Helsinki.
