About
Hanne Røberg-Larsen is an Associate Professor at the University of Oslo, positioned within the Section for Chemical Life Sciences – Biomolecules, Bio-Inspired Materials and Bioanalytical Chemistry. Her work sits at the intersection of advanced analytical chemistry and biomedical research, where she develops and applies cutting-edge LC-MS technologies to address complex biological questions.
Research Focus:
- Bioanalytical method development using nano- and capillary-LC–MS
- Oxysterol biology and lipid signalling in cancer and metabolic disease
- Single-cell and ultra-small sample omics
- Organoid and organ-on-chip analytics
- Automated sample preparation and microfluidic integration
Across more than 40 peer-reviewed papers (2012-2025), her group has progressively pushed sensitivity limits for detecting metabolites, hormones and drugs in miniaturised systems. Recent trends reveal a strong emphasis on in vitro microphysiological models—combining organoids, organ-on-chip devices and tailored LC-MS workflows—to study metabolic crosstalk and therapeutic responses under controlled conditions. Particular attention is given to cholesterol-derived signalling molecules (oxysterols) and their impact on breast cancer chemoresistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Collaborative Environment:
She participates in the strategic research initiative “Integrated technologies for tracking organoid morphogenesis (ITOM)” and is affiliated with the Bio3 research group “Chemical Life Sciences – Biomolecules, Bio-Inspired Materials and Bioanalytical Chemistry”. The group fosters interdisciplinary collaborations bridging chemistry, biology and engineering.
