Hanne Finnestrand

Hanne Finnestrand is an Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management at NTNU. Her expertise lies in Organizational Development and Action Research, with a focus on Socio-Technical Systems Theory (STS) and participatory organizational change. She holds a PhD in Organizational Development and Action Research (2011) and a Master's in Organizational Sociology (2003).

Previously, she worked as a Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF Technology and Society (2003–2016), collaborating closely with companies to address workplace challenges. She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Systemic Practice and Action Research and co-founded the STS Kompetansenettverk, fostering collaboration with the Global STS Network.

Her research emphasizes participatory approaches to organizational innovation, workplace democracy, and the integration of human and technical systems. Recent work explores AI's impact on organizational design, sustainable practices in the cleaning industry, and systemic problem-solving in healthcare.

Hanne has held board roles with organizations like the Scandinavian Academy of Industrial Engineering and Management and Lean Forum Norway. Her teaching includes courses on Change Management, Technology Management, and Strategic Change Management at both bachelor's and master's levels.

Key contributions include advancing action research methodologies, analyzing Nordic working life models, and advocating for inclusive organizational practices through union-management cooperation. Her publications span journals like Economic and Industrial Democracy and AI & Society, reflecting her interdisciplinary focus on theory-practice bridges.
