Hannah Shaffer is an incoming Assistant Professor at Harvard Law School, effective July 1, 2023. She currently serves as a Lecturer in Law and Harry A. Bigelow Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School.
- Education: J.D. (2021) and Ph.D. in Economics (Harvard University, Stone Ph.D. Scholar in Inequality and Wealth Concentration); B.A. (Political Theory and Economics, Washington University in St. Louis, summa cum laude, 2012).
Research Focus: Shaffer employs rigorous empirical methods to study criminal procedure, prosecutorial discretion, and racial disparities in state courts. Her work bridges law and economics, analyzing how legal actors perpetuate or mitigate systemic inequities through data-driven approaches.

Teaching & Mentorship: She has taught "Legal Research, Writing, and Advocacy" at Chicago and will mentor students at Harvard, combining economic analysis with criminal justice reform.
