Hannah Ewing is an Associate Professor of History at Rollins College since 2014, specializing in Ancient and Medieval Mediterranean history, Byzantine Empire, and monastic reform. She teaches courses on the Islamic world, classical studies, and international relations. Ewing holds a PhD from Ohio State University.
Research & Awards: Her research focuses on twelfth-century history, female monastic leadership, the Crusades, and Byzantine-Western relations. She won the 2017 Outstanding Faculty Award and was an Arthur Vining Davis Fellow (2021-22). Current projects include studies on the Second Crusade and comparative monastic reforms.
Service & Leadership: Ewing has served as Department Chair, Phi Alpha Theta advisor, and member of multiple campus committees (Curriculum, Executive, etc.). She co-chaired the Scholarship for High Impact Practices grant program and advises faculty through R-Compass.
Professional Involvement: Active in the Byzantine Studies Association (Governing Board, 2017-2021) and Medieval Academy of America. She has presented at national/international conferences and contributed to peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
