Hanifa Pilvar

Hanifa Pilvar is a Research Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, where she investigates socio-economic factors contributing to preterm birth and its long-term labor market consequences (joined January 2024). Her prior work at the UCL Institute of Child Health focused on mental health admission costs in UK pediatric wards.

Research Interests: Hanifa's work spans infant health outcomes, preterm birth, physician financial incentives, and workload pressures in healthcare systems. Her doctoral studies analyzed C-section delivery outcomes and financial incentive impacts on childbirth procedures, while addressing systemic issues like UK general practitioner (GP) shortages and their effects on clinical decision-making.

Education: Hanifa holds a PhD and MRes in Economics from Queen Mary University of London, along with an MSc and BSc from Sharif University of Technology in Tehran.

Prior Affiliation: Before joining Nuffield, she was a Research Fellow at the UCL Institute of Child Health, focusing on pediatric mental health economics.

Current Focus: Her ongoing research examines the intersection of public health, socio-economic disparities, and healthcare workforce dynamics, particularly in maternal and child health contexts.
