Hamish Innes

Hamish Innes is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Geological Sciences within Freie Universität Berlin, specializing in planetary geodynamics under the Planetary Sciences and Remote Sensing department. He is part of the DIVERSE project, which focuses on exoplanet redox state estimations.

• Education: DPhil in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Oxford under Prof. Raymond Pierrehumbert.

His research centers on interior-atmosphere interactions, atmospheric modeling, and planetary habitability, with a focus on geophysical fluid dynamics and climate modeling for exoplanets. His work includes analyzing hydrogen atmospheres as greenhouse agents and modeling rocky planets with reduced interiors.

Recent publications highlight trends in exoplanet atmosphere studies, including 3D climate simulations for sub-Neptunes and Hycean worlds, general circulation model intercomparisons, and applications of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) for planetary surface analysis.
