Hamdy Ibrahim

Hamdy Ibrahim is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). Prior to UTC, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Dynamics and Smart Systems Lab (DSSL) at the University of Toledo and served as Chief Research Officer at Thermomorph, LLC, a startup focused on Nitinol-based biomedical devices. His educational background includes a B.Sc. Hons (2008) and M.Sc. (2012) in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University, followed by a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toledo (2017).

His work bridges materials science and biomedical engineering, emphasizing corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of implants.

Recent research trends include developing hybrid surface coatings for magnesium-based implants, analyzing corrosion-fatigue behavior of metal matrix composites, and exploring biodegradable polymers for biomedical applications. His articles highlight collaborations with NSF-funded programs like I-Corps and SBIR.

Dr. Ibrahim has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications and holds 2 patent applications, reflecting his innovation in biomedical devices. His professional experience spans academia and industry, including roles at the University of Toledo and Thermomorph, LLC.
