Hakeem Naim

Dr. Hakeem Naim is a Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in the late 19th-century Islamic nationalism, colonialism, and comparative intellectual history of the Ottoman Empire, Afghanistan, and Central Asia. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern Middle East history from the University of California, Davis, and is proficient in Persian (Dari), Turkish, Arabic, Pashto, Uzbek, German, and English.

His research integrates post-colonial theories with cross-cultural examinations of historical narratives. Prior to Berkeley, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Western Washington University, teaching courses on Islam, Modern Middle East history, and Ottoman World history.
