About
Haiying Liang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson University (College of Science). Their research focuses on applying genetics and genomics to improve economically important plant traits, with emphasis on forest health and stress tolerance in economically significant species like chestnut and camellia. They hold offices in the AG Biotech/Biosystems Research Complex (BRC) and are affiliated with the American Chestnut Foundation. Dr. Liang teaches courses including GEN3000, GEN3020(H), and GEN/BCHM4910/4930.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Plant Science & Biotechnology, State University of New York
- M.S. in Plant Biology, Beijing Forestry University
- B.S. in Forestry, Beijing Forestry University
Research interests span plant biotechnology, genomic approaches to disease mitigation, and molecular mechanisms underlying plant responses to environmental stresses. Recent work includes studies on drought tolerance in tree peony, adventitious root formation in chestnut cuttings, and nitrogen use efficiency in poplar.
Labs/Teams: Active labs in BRC 104, 104A, 104C, 108, 136, and GH215. Collaborates with institutions globally on projects involving transcriptomics, metabolomics, and population genomics of hardwood species.
