Missouri University of Science and TechnologyAbout
Dr. Haiming Wen is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Research in the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering and Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T). He holds a PhD from the University of California, Davis (2012), with postdoctoral appointments at Northwestern University and Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Prior to Missouri S&T, he served as a Research Assistant Professor at Idaho State University and a staff scientist at INL.
His research focuses on advanced materials for extreme environments, including nuclear and aerospace applications. Key areas include microstructure characterization (using TEM/atom probe tomography), mechanical behavior of materials, nanostructured alloys, and irradiation-resistant materials. He leads projects funded by DOE, NSF, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, with over 75 peer-reviewed publications (h-index 26).
- Research Highlights: Bulk nanostructured alloys, high entropy alloys, nuclear fuels, irradiation effects, and materials for Gen IV reactors.
- Awards: 2022 Missouri S&T Outstanding Teaching Award, CEC Dean’s Scholar Award, and multiple 'Outstanding Reviewer' recognitions for journals like Acta Materialia and Materials Science and Engineering A.
- Professional Roles: Editorial Board member of Materials Science and Engineering A, guest editor for JOM and AIMS Materials Science, and proposal reviewer for DOE/NSF.
His work integrates advanced manufacturing techniques (e.g., additive manufacturing) with materials characterization to optimize properties for high-demand applications. Current projects explore thermal stability, oxidation resistance, and mechanical performance under extreme conditions.
