About
Dr. Haifei Shi is a Professor in the Biology Department at Miami University. Her research focuses on neural and hormonal control of energy metabolism, with particular emphasis on obesity pathogenesis, sex hormone influences, and cancer metabolism. She directs investigations into brown adipose tissue thermogenesis and metabolic dysregulation using physiological, biochemical, and molecular techniques.
Teaching
- Human physiology (BIO 305)
- Endocrinology (BIO 454/554)
- Undergraduate/Graduate seminars (BIO 490/710)
Research explores sex-specific metabolic strategies through mouse models and human cell studies. Key areas include: estrogen-mediated neuroendocrine regulation, sympathetic activation of adipose tissues, and gut-brain axis interactions in metabolic disorders.
Publications demonstrate expertise in molecular metabolism, with themes in apolipoprotein functions, sex hormone signaling, and microbiome interactions. Recent work emphasizes therapeutic targeting of obesity-related disorders through hormonal and neural pathways.
