Dr. Hagen Schmidt is a leading researcher in the Surface Dynamics department at the Institute for Solid State Research (IFW) Dresden. As co-founder and co-leader of SAWLab Saxony, an international network focused on acoustoelectronics, he has made significant contributions to surface acoustic wave (SAW) technology and its applications in microfluidics, biomedical sensing, and material characterization.
His research portfolio spans piezoelectric materials, acoustic wave propagation, and microscale actuation. With over 70 journal papers and 71 conference contributions, his work explores SAW-driven fluid dynamics, high-temperature properties of crystals (e.g., CTGS, LGS), and novel transducer designs. Key collaborations include institutions in Germany, Russia, and Australia.
Dr. Schmidt actively contributes to major conferences like the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium and has developed technologies for blood analysis, cell manipulation, and EUV optics contamination detection. His technical expertise includes finite element modeling (FEM) of acoustic wave scattering and experimental validation of SAW phenomena.
