Habibul Bakht

Dr. Habibul Bakht is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Hilbert College. He holds a BS/MS in Microbiology from the University of Dhaka, an MS in Marine-Estuarine and Environmental Sciences, and a PhD in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

His research expertise spans:

• Environmental and molecular microbiology
• Genetics, cell biology, and marine ecology
• Pathogen interactions in aquatic ecosystems (e.g., Vibrio cholerae, Hematodinium)

His publications (2004–2012) focus on microbial ecology, pathogen dynamics, and molecular mechanisms in coastal environments, with recurring themes in genetic analysis of aquatic pathogens and environmental persistence.

He holds memberships in the American Society for Microbiology and Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists. Previous roles include Lecturer at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Research Microbiologist at the International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh.
